Design inspired by the masterful fresco that decorated a room in the prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri in Thera (Santorini). In the lower part wavy bands probably denote water, over which there are rocks that recall the volcanic landscape of the island. The blue monkeys that clamber on them were foreign to the Theran fauna and were probably imported from the East Mediterranean, 17th cent. BC. Museum of Prehistoric Thera
