Head of a Statue – Kore of Euthydikos
Head of the statue of the Kore of Euthydikos Acropolis of Athens, ca. 490 BC Transitional phase from Archaic to Classical period Pentelic marble Acropolis Museum (inv. no. 686) This statue depicts a young maiden (kore) standing in serene pose, wearing a delicately carved chiton and translucent himation. While traces of the Archaic smile remain, the overall expression is more naturalistic, making it one of the finest examples of transitional sculpture just before the Classical period.
